Your Fear is Killing Your Candidacy

“The greatest act of courage is to be and to own all of who you are – without apology, without excuses, without masks to cover the truth of who you are.”    Debbie Ford

Running for election requires bravery. Putting yourself out there to be judged as worthy of votes, dollars and time (or not) is no small feat. Kudos for throwing your hat in the ring – the rest of us are thankful you are willing to take the chance and do the work.

My question for you is this: As a candidate, are you showing up as your real self or are you wearing a mask, presenting who you think your constituents want to see?

If you are playing to the crowd, how do you know you have chosen the correct mask? Are you exhausted by the need to maintain your cover? As a result, do people seem hesitant to jump aboard your campaign?

There is a better way.

Show up without the mask!

Own all of whom you are. Trust that your people will be drawn to you like a moth to a flame because they see your light, genuinely like you and believe in your commitment to them.

I get it. It can be scary being vulnerable. If people reject the “fake” you, I’m sure it hurts less than being rejected for being the “real” you. But how does it feel to know people voted for a persona you then must keep alive? And what about all the votes you missed out on because people could sense the inauthenticity and therefore did not trust you?

Lots of people are skeptical about politicians.  And let’s face it, our democracy is struggling. People want and need a working government.  Just think of all that would be possible if those in power led from a place of true authenticity, heart and in service of their communities. SO MUCH GOOD!

You CAN win being your true self. You CAN legislate being your true self.

Your constituents need your courage. The world needs your courage.

Give them the authentic you!
