Hello, I’m Julie Mackey Aulava.
I’m a political purpose coach. I connect people to their cause - the thing that drives them - so they find the courage to say it out loud and take action.
who I work with
You’re a political candidate with a passion to make things better through community-focused, responsible government.
Maybe this is the first time you are running. As you think about your campaign, you wonder how to communicate your passion in a way that will connect with voters, donors and volunteers AND set you apart from other candidates
Maybe you have done this many times, but this time around feel disconnected from the reason you ran in the first place. You want to re-ignite the fire by aligning your purpose and mission to the work you do.
If you want to run a heart-centered, authentically you campaign, I want to help.
how I help you
As your political purpose coach, I’ll show you how to
- get clarity about why a role in politics is right for you
- connect with the inner values that drive you, and
- shine a light on how you are blocking your own way
so you can drive your campaign from a place of courageous authenticity and a passion for honest connection.
why I do this work
I believe in government when it is run by the people and for the people. (Corny buy true.)
I am passionate about having inspired, authentic, trustworthy, and service-driven people in office so our world gets better for everyone.
As we are seeing, democracy is a fragile thing. It is an agreement amongst all people that we can do better together while respecting our differences. It requires participation and leadership.
I’m grateful there are people who want to take on the leadership role. And I’m continuously encouraged by the amazing intentions of those running for office. There are many great people with political aspirations!
Sitting through endorsement interviews and candidate updates are what called me into action from a coaching perspective. In the first 10 seconds, I can tell if someone is reading from a prepared script, saying what they think we want to hear versus someone speaking from the heart and taking a courageous stand for something. The difference is felt on an emotional level.
What would happen if every candidate dropped their shield and really connected with us about what matters to them?
As a candidate, how would it feel to love, and never get tired of, being asked, “Why are you running for office?”
I want to help create a world where both of those things are true.
my expertise
I decided to heed my calling and completed an intensive 12-month coach training program through Accomplishment Coaching. I have loved working with amazing clients, clearing their path so they can do their big things.
For the past 20+ years, I’ve worked in corporate America (hospitality, communications, insurance and retail) and with local activists.
My primary role has been helping people who speak and think differently get aligned around a common purpose so they can deliver meaningful solutions.
how I work with my clients
I ask questions, listen and ask more questions in order to get at what is behind your words. What you really mean can be different from the words you say about it.
Once we discover your purpose, I work with you to tie it to your Just Cause – the mission you want to take on to make your purpose a real thing in the world.
We will get real about your unique roadblocks and strategize ways to go around them or even make them disappear.
In the end, you will have clarity about why you are running for office and the confidence to communicate your message from your heart.
My superpower is listening with my heart to what is said and more importantly, not said.
Claiming your superpower can be scary while also exhilarating. It requires courage to step forward.
Ready to get clear about your purpose and make it visible to the world?

what I believe
- I believe we intrinsically know our purpose. Sometimes it scares us.
- I believe when we act from purpose, we create a deep sense of self-fulfillment.
- I believe the world needs you. Right now.
I'm here to help you get out there.
when I'm not coaching
I grew up in Spokane, Washington. I’m a Washington State University alumna (Go Cougs!), live in a suburb of Seattle, and am married to a wonderful Polynesian man (hence all the vowels in the last name). We have two amazing young adults who keep me humble and two totally adorable dogs who exude nothing but love.
I’m having a blast reconnecting with my Chi Omega sisters, cheering on my kids, exploring other parts of the world, getting out in nature, and appreciating the gifts that come with being part of a big extended family.
And, like you, I’m challenging myself to live life on the field, fully visible.
